Foundation repair in Iowa Park, Texas

Foundation repair for Iowa Park homes in central Wichita County, just west of Wichita Falls.

Iowa Park is on State Highway 370 in central Wichita County, west of Wichita Falls, and had 6,535 residents at the 2020 census. D. C. and A. J. Kolp founded it in 1888 beside the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway, and it was first called Daggett Switch. After the townsite was laid out, a train of settlers came down from Iowa. The town shipped cotton and wheat, rode out a drought in the early 1890s, and picked up again after an oil discovery in 1918.

Older town lots, newer edges

The streets near the old rail line hold many older houses, and that's where crawl space problems are most common: floors that sag toward the middle, shims that have slipped, and wood that's been damp for years. Newer homes on the edges of town are mostly slabs, where the usual complaint is a corner that has started to drop and brick that cracks in a stair-step line above it.

What to have checked

  • Crawl space piers, shims, sills and moisture in older houses
  • Floor elevations across slab homes with fresh cracks
  • Gutters and downspouts, and where the water ends up
  • Any sign of a plumbing leak under the slab

Permits

Iowa Park is a separate city from Wichita Falls. Ask the City of Iowa Park whether your repair or drainage work needs a permit.
